West Michigan Agents Host Charity Fundraiser

The West Michigan Association of Insurance Agents (WMAIA) has partnered with the Kid's Food Basket  to raise money for the Sack Supper program.  Sack Suppers feed 4800  kids in 31 schools every day and more schools are on the waiting list.

The event takes place February 8th, 2012 at the Thousand Oaks Country Club in Grand Rapids.

The Berends Hendricks Stuits Insurance Agency held a blood drive on February 1st 2012 at their Grandville office. The agency has held many blood drives in the past.  For those who are interested in donating, you can learn about upcoming blood drives by following them on their Facebook page.

This year, through the generosity of the YAC, MI Future Foundation, and the West Michigan, Oakland and Macomb Local Associations, $12,000 in scholarships are being made available to those seeking a career in the independent insurance agency system.
• YAC/Shawn Brown Scholarship: $2,000
• MI Future Foundation Undergraduate:
         (2) $1000 and (3) $500
• MI Future/Grange Memorial Scholarship: $1000
• Macomb County: (3) $500
• Oakland County: (2) $1500
• West MAIA: $1,000

Out of the Darkness 
Young Agents Raise $2,000 for Charity

The Young Agents Council (YACs) successfully raised $2,000 to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  YAC Members participated in the Out of the Darkness Community Walk, September 18, 2011 at Gallup Park in Ann Arbor.

Walkers included Mike & Liz Brouwer of the Brouwers Agency in Middleville, Kelly Casey of the Duclos Agency in Saginaw, Anthony DiPilla of the Morris Insurance Group in Rochester, Douglas Fairbanks of Hartland Insurance Agency in Hartland, Bill Lemanski of Meiers & Lombardini Insurance in East Lansing and Lauren Uthes of Lakeside Insurance Agency in Clinton Township.



Independent Agents Continue Support of Literacy Center

The West Michigan Association of Insurance Agents (WMAIA) donated more than $4,700 to the Literacy Center of West Michigan again this year. Money came from the proceeds of their annual charity golf outing held recently at the Water Mark Golf Club in Grand Rapids. The outing had over 90 golfers and 20 hole sponsors. Literacy Center board member Lisa Buffin accepted the check on behalf of the Center, thanking WMAIA and west Michigan agents for their continued support.

Macomb Agents Support Toys for Tots


At their recent Christmas party, the Independent Insurance Agents of Macomb County donated dozens of toys and $1,000 to the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots Foundation. Sgt. Miller USMC, left, accepted the gift from Macomb President Michael Domzalski and Treasurer Jim Barr.


Trusted Choice Agents Conduct 2010 Progressive Gator Bowl Coin Toss


Independent insurance agents played a role January 1, 2011 as Trusted Choice® company partner, Progressive Insurance, sponsored the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla. The pre-game coin toss was conducted by a Progressive representative and two Trusted Choice® agents: Michigan graduate Robert Bois of Bois Insurance in Flushing and Mississippi State University graduate Scott Lemon of Lemon-Mohler Insurance Agency.
